About Austria

Austria is a country of just over eight million people. It has been a European Union member state since 1995. Seventy-eight percent of all Austrians claim Roman Catholicism as their religion though most are only nominal Catholics. Austria is a relatively affluent society. Geographically, Austria is a gateway between Eastern and Western Europe. Many immigrants from the Baltics, the former USSR, Turkey and even the Middle East come to Austria each year looking for a better life. They bring with them their religions and their worldviews. Due to this, Islam is steadily growing within Austria. Statistically, Austria has some of the highest suicide, abortion and alcoholism rates in Europe. It is also estimated that eighty percent of the Austrian people have been involved with the occult. Less than one-fifth of one percent of all Austrians are believed to have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
